This fountain is found primarily in the temple districts of the Old Capital. The tall central pot is hollow and bottomless, symbolizing the infinite capacity of the soul. Citizens write their prayers on parchment made of dissolvable reed-paper and toss them into the top of the pot. As the water flows over the rim, it "carries" the ink down into the basin and out through the city’s canals, spreading the prayers to the sea. It is a piece of living history, stained by centuries of ink and ceremony.
